Chinatown Navigation Center Sprung Structure Shelter
115 East Lake Street, Salinas, CA 93901
DESCRIPTION OF SPRUNG STRUCTURE HOMELESS SHELTER
The City of Salinas, along with its key shelter partner Community Homeless Solutions (CHS), and with the support of the Coalition of Homeless Service Providers, is strongly considering the possibility of adding a “Sprung Shelter” structure in the heart of Chinatown in Salinas to shelter up to an additional 50 individuals living on the streets of Salinas. The aluminum frame, canvas structure can be assembled in place on an existing parking lot site in as little as four weeks and would be operated by CHS which is currently operating the new Navigation Center shelter immediately adjacent to the proposed site.
The additional shelter is another step forward in continuing to help our homeless transition from the street towards housing, from instability towards employment and rehabilitation. CHS will operate the shelter program on a 24/7 basis, coordinating not only overnight shelter and sleeping facilities, but additional case management support, employment assistance and coordinated housing assistance.
