Community Homeless Solutions is the largest provider of shelter and housing services in both Monterey and San Benito County, serving over 300 individuals and families each night with shelter solutions, outreach and protection from domestic violence.

Homelessness is highly misunderstood by most in our communities, and in fact raises a lot of conversations, fear, sometimes harsh reactions – but also a great deal of compassion on those experiencing a loss of housing and all that comes with that.

We have decided to host a series of educational seminars around homelessness over the next few months to help community members better understand what it is, some of the solutions being deployed to help address homelessness, and equally important, how the community can best engage in these issues.

On July 29, we will be hosting the first in a series of six seminars and will be including experts from our local community in an interview format to help in the education efforts.  We will be addressing general information and statistics and definitions important in understanding who are those without homes, domestic violence and its impact on the issue, housing and shelter options and what it looks like locally, faith community engagement and support, funding sources and opportunities, social and mental health services and even information on a post-acute care respite program in partnership with local hospitals.
